BLACK ATLAS

Celebrating the Bi-centennial of the Abolition from Slavery in the British Empire, Black Atlas tells the historical tale of two slaves (one from America; another from Africa) who fate throws together in Regency England. One is taught to read; the other (Tom Molineaux, the first Black Prize Fighter in England) isn’t. The differences become plain for all to see. Spanning three continents in 80 minutes Black Atlas depicts key historical as well as fictional characters, and features an original score by Tim Williams. Produced by the London Shakespeare Workout (LSW) BLACK ATLAS is performed by a mixture of professional performers and ex-offenders. The Guardian exclaimed: “LSW works at the highest level …. What is most impressive is the commitment of the entire company and its rare passion for language.”

Trestle presents
LITTLE INDIA

Sumptuous storytelling theatre, vibrant visuals, and powerful physical action, Trestle is back with a tale of love and loss, mischief and mayhem.

Two people meet and quickly fall in love, but one leaves and forgets, while the other is left holding their child. What happens when we lose a memory? If we forget what is important, how can we relearn to love what really matters?

Influenced by South Indian traditions of Kalaripayattu (martial art), Konokol (rhythmic patterns) and mudras (hand gestures), Trestle re-imagines the classical story of Shakuntala for a contemporary time; combining ancient arts with modern words, and inspirational music from India.

Recommended for 12yrs+. Please note, there are no masks in this production.

*STAR QUALITY
By Noel Coward

"We're putting on a play, not fighting a bloody war. Why can't people in the theatre behave like normal human beings?"

Blake Drama Club present Noel Coward's wickedly funny final play, taking us behind the scenes of a new West End production. Conjuring up a backstage world of talent and treachery with a gallery of unforgettable characters (temperamental leading lady, ruthless director, jaded old troupers and an innocent young playwright) the course from tentative first rehearsal to triumphant opening night does not run smoothly, to hilarious effect. But emerging from the mayhem is that rarest gift of all - star quality!
